Cargologic began life in 1951 at Zurich Airport as the freight arm of Swissair. Following the opening of an office in Berne and as a result of the dramatic growth in airfreight, the existing 8000 m2 terminal in Zurich was expanded several times. Cargologic was officially founded as an independent subsidiary of the SAirGroup in 1996 and the new freight centre in Zurich, with a fully automated 35,000 m2 consignment and pallet storage facility, entered into service in 1999.
In 2002 Cargologic was taken over by Rhenus Logistics, which implemented a comprehensive restructuring and modernization process. The expansion to the freight hub of Frankfurt in 2005 was Cargologic's first move outside Switzerland, and the company also took over airfreight handling in Lugano in the same year.
Following intensive preparations, the 35-year-old freight system CARIDO was replaced by the modern CARGOSPOT software in 2007, enabling most processes to be streamlined and optimized.
The company also acquired four x-ray scanners and organized the necessary training and certification for staff to operate these, before taking over responsibility for security services in both Zurich and Frankfurt in 2008.
